Union Agricole Holding AG has existed since 1966 as the holding company for the agricultural businesses of the Schaumann Group with their core segments of animal nutrition, pig breeding, feed hygiene, biotechnology and renewable energies.
The foundation of the SCHAUMANN Group dates back to 1938 when H. Wilhelm Schaumann set up his company H. Wilhelm Schaumann GmbH. The Group stands for for successful livestock production and pioneering developments in animal nutrition, and feed and animal housing hygiene in Germany and abroad.
The SCHAUMANN Group now comprises 25 companies with 7 production centres in many European countries and collaborates with partner companies in Asia, Africa and America.

The core business
The initial focus was on mineral mixtures and other agents as feed supplements, always geared to market conditions and tailored to practical farm requirements. Dedicated pure research, scientific experiments, field trials and innovative products have led to success.
Breeding pigs
Hülsenberger Zuchtschweine, with a record of success stretching back over 40 years, is one of the largest pig breeding companies in Germany. Expertise in breeding and production consultancy reinforced by a genetic collaboration with its French partner ADN, provide a range of benefits for pig producers.
Biotechnology
The SCHAUMANN Group has continued to consolidate its position as a partner for agriculture with innovative products in the field of biotechnology. Building up the company Lactosan Starterkulturen and its rapid transformation into an ultramodern biotechnology centre has opened up new perspectives. The success of probiotics and silage additives, both for forage production and biogas generation, is ground-breaking.
Acids
With the productivity of agriculture always in mind, Union Agricole Holding AG made timely and continuous investments in new developments. Ligrana came on stream in 2004, producing specialities from liquid and granulated acids for animal nutrition and feed preservation.
Expertise in biogas
The growing trend towards alternative energies sent a clear signal that current activities in the biogas area should be bundled together. Setting up the company Schaumann BioEnergy has created the basis for focusing on the specific requirements of this market. Schaumann BioEnergy specialises in substrate preparation and optimisation of fermentation processes in biogas production.
